Behind the fez, there’s real magic; the kind that only comes from serving others.

In a city defined by its warmth and resilience, one organization has quietly become synonymous with selfless service and community empowerment.

Since its founding, Sitara Grotto has made it its mission to address urgent local needs through volunteerism, donations, and heartfelt care, solidifying its reputation as a pillar of support for El Paso’s most vulnerable residents.
This commitment continues to play on resounding display, as Sitara Grotto took purposeful action to aid critical service providers including Dame La Mano, Rescue Mission of El Paso, and the Lions Club. Through these efforts, the organization not only provided essential resources but also rekindled hope for individuals and families enduring hardship across the borderland.

In April 2025, Sitara Grotto made what many insiders call a “historic” donation: over 975 articles of clothing to Dame La Mano, an El Paso-based organization that has served as a lifeline for survivors of domestic violence since 1997. This significant contribution is especially notable as Dame La Mano had not received any donations since 2020, leaving shelves bare and resources strained for those seeking shelter from abuse.
“For us, every shirt, every jacket, and every pair of shoes is more than just clothing. It’s dignity. It’s hope,” said one Dame La Mano staff member, who described the challenges the organization has faced in the wake of dwindling support over recent years. Sitara Grotto’s donation arrived when it was needed most, and within days, the clothes were being put to use—offering comfort and practical relief to women and children starting over after trauma.

Dame La Mano is recognized as one of El Paso’s vital community partners, providing shelter, advocacy, and support services to domestic violence survivors for almost three decades. The organization’s ability to meet rising need depends on direct community involvement, and this sizeable and historic donation marked a renewed sense of solidarity, affirming what makes El Paso strong.

Sitara Grotto’s dedication did not end there. In July 2025, the group orchestrated another ambitious collection drive, amassing over 650 additional articles of clothing and more than 20 cookware items for the Rescue Mission of El Paso. This local nonprofit supports individuals experiencing homelessness, providing not only shelter and meals but programs designed to help people re-enter society with stability and dignity.

“When organizations like Sitara Grotto step up, it allows us to do more for more people,” said a resident from the Rescue Mission of El Paso. The clothing, and cookware were distributed promptly, filling pressing needs among residents, and enriching the center’s ability to serve nutritious meals and offer clean, acceptable apparel to those with nowhere else to turn.

This act of generosity highlights Sitara Grotto’s holistic approach: not merely aiming to meet emergency needs, but actively supporting the steps necessary for guests at Rescue Mission to regain independence.

July also saw Sitara Grotto mobilize its members and supporters for yet another cause. The organization collected a full box of gently used purses to be donated to the El Paso Chapter #74 of National Sojourners. The Sojourners, in turn, will deliver the items to the Lions Club, which will coordinate charitable activities for a battered women’s shelter in El Paso.
Though the purses may seem a modest contribution, such personal items can become symbols of self-worth and normalcy for women rebuilt from difficult circumstances. This donation, while part of a larger coordinated effort, once again illustrates Sitara Grotto’s attention to detail, and awareness of nuanced community needs.

Sitara Grotto has been described as “the heartbeat of volunteerism in El Paso, and their repeated generosity sets an example and a standard for caring across our El Paso, and surrounding areas”.
